guitar scales - guitar scales

Questions & Answers with Neil Hogan #2.0.10

Q. I am wondering how to use guitar scales for blues. Are they pentatonic or something a little different?

A. This is something that confused me for many years. When you are trying to categorize different types of approaches to playing lead, many students start with guitar scales for blues. Unfortunately, blues is a style that has a huge amount of variables in how to play, as well as even what notes to play.

There are articles here about blues scales, pentatonic scales, and way too many other scales. Some of these address lead playing, some address completely unrelated concepts. This is where we need more input from guitar students and teachers to help build Totally Guitars into a really useful site for all musicians. Help us put it all together!

We have additional thoughts about related concepts here - guitar scales.
