Random Ramblings with Neil Hogan #101

A somewhat deranged fan from southern North Dakota wrote in to ask if I had given much thought to the ancient and mystical practice of guitar training. My impulsive reaction was that guitars are not very smart and I would be skeptical about the existence of guitar training at all.

On the other hand, I would like to think that if any instrument were capable of being trained it would be our beloved guitar. With that being said, it might be better to address other avenues of training, particularly in the direction of living things. I might also think it best to start with animals, which allegedly have brains, rather than working on flower or vegetable training.

I can’t completely discount the existence of guitar training as I have heard that some monks in Eastern Tibet have had some success. The story goes that one of them even managed to get his guitar to bring him his newspaper and slippers. As much of a stretch as this seems, I can’t believe it could happen every day. Probably just on weekends.

Please take me back to the real world, or at least guitar course.
