Q. Is it just me, or are most guitar teachers a little unusual?
A. It might be just you, but most of the guitar teachers I know are a little bit off balance. I think you need to have a slightly eccentric but creative personality to be a good instructor.
I think one of the main qualities to look for is someone who is pretty perceptive. This is important because itis crucial that an instructor knows when a student is not grasping a concept.
This extra level of perception can be the kind of thing that makes someone seem unusual. Now unusual by itself is not a bad thing because there are a lot of different levels of unusual. In general you should be looking for someone a bit unusual when looking for a good instructor.
