Hi Daryl - good advice on the strumming - I will keep working on it. I did upgrade my recording setup to a low cost dynamic mic and 4 channel mixer both from radio shack and recommended a while ago by dan/wrench. And I have a pickup for my gs-mini. I will try it with various volume levels on the mix.
Marc - good suggestion - I never think to play along with the record. I'll try it.
Willem - I actually took a couple of dylan workshops from a local guitar teacher and have arrangements for 20 dylan songs. For this song, I have an arrangement for a lead guitar also. So, yes, I will be posting more dylan songs.
Tony - I do love the dylan songs and have listened to them so much it's easier for me to remember the lyrics and phrasings! And your video of the Church song was great - Sorry for not commenting on it
Jim, I think you started out a bit rushed so at first the voice and strumming were not in synch. Then you relaxed a bit and things settled in to make a better match between the two. May I suggest you try to vary your attack on the strings, not hitting all of them on each strum ?
I appreciate Dylan greatly, good thing for you to sing it. It's a pleasure to see you coming along with this type of tune !
Pierre - good comments - I did feel like I relaxed as I went on, perhaps i should start with an intro. good comment on hitting less strings - I will try that also.
Hey michele - thanks for the comment! Yes, I am trying to use a pick these days, except for the uke where I can attack with the index finger. I noticed your uke party has been quiet lately
Returning after a long hiatus with several uploads today. All of these were recorded directly from the camera mic in one take without any post-processing. That's the only way I seem able to make time for this.
I first learned Chet Atkins' arrangement of this song, but don't play it that way any more. This song is about a guitar accompanying pain and not about virtuousity, in my opinion.
Pardon the pyjamas.

That was fabulous Stuart, Welcome back! What a great performance and so well sung... that Cat Stevens in you is pushing unmistakably through again. I really enjoyed that. Just the song to be sung alone in a man cave with pyjamas on .
PS: Just out of curiosity are your strings , shall we say, a little "vintage"? Not being rude, just checking my ears and perception.
Stuart what a beautiful interpretation. I loved it. Especially the "talking" lines: "you coulda done better....I don't mind". Well done. And very well picked.
Stuart,,really fantastic,,how fantastic?? I tell you I had almost ''kippevel''..Chris knows this word too and stole it from me and he forgot to use it here..

willem.
Chris: Yes, the strings are getting a bit cruddy and need to be changed. But changing strings, digging out a proper microphone, setting up the audio interface, going through the whole Sonar workflow rigmarole, then synching with a video were part of what had been keeping me from posting for such a long time. So I just decided to turn on the camcorder and go for it. I did at least tune up first, though.
Daryl: Glad you liked it. I cringe a bit watching "you coulda done better....I don't mind."
Willem: You had me running for a Dutch/English dictionary, but I guess you knew you would. Now I'm going to have to start using this word.
Jim: Likewise enjoyed seeing your recent post. I'll let you know when I'm next in San Jose -- likely in late March.
Stuart,
Great job on one of my favorite Dylan songs! Your fingerpicking sounded great. You sang the song with a lot of emotion...as if you've been there! If so, sorry. If not, you had me fooled!
Yeah, having a vast reservoir of pain makes it a lot easier to sing these Dylan songs. In my case, it's fortunately very far in the past. So it's not an act, but there's no need to be sorry.

I was not a finalist on The Voice. But what the heck.
