Located in Northern California – not too far from Neil.
February 2009 a Bible study I attend decided to do an outreach to local senior citizen homes. The leader asked if anyone played guitar. Raised my hand - said I owned several guitars but hadn’t touched one in 30 years. That’s how I took up the guitar again.
30 years ago I was classically trained. Still own the classical guitar – but this time wanted to concentrate on solos with my steel string acoustic (when not learning old time Hymns for senior citizens.) Gave up guitar after college to pursue Karate as a hobby (to keep in shape). Can’t have long finger nails on your right hand and do knuckle pushups. My profile picture is me in a karate tournament – scoring a point.
After a 30 year respite lost all my calluses and finger coordination – but not my ability to sight read music. Enjoy Neil’s teaching – love all the lessons available on the internet. I’m getting better – not yet back to my earlier skills.
Posted a couple of videos in the community section and TGMatt suggested I also post them in the student channel and introduce myself to the forum.
Welcome Dan. It is very good to have you with us here at TG. Your tips, tricks, questions, and opinions are always welcome here. I really enjoy your guitar playing.
Hi Dan, Welcome to the party. Good to meet another Northern California musician. I'm about 75 north of Sacramento in Chico. Nice job with your Over the Rainbow post.
Steve
Yea !!! Thanks for introducing yourself. I am still overwhelmed by the Over the Rainbow song. Stick with all the crazies in the forum, and you will learn and grow unbelievably. Oh yea - tune into Neil once in a while too !! Haha
Dan,What style of Karate.Must be a black belt.No head contact in tournaments to score points not less your a black belt.Well thats the way it was 30 years ago.
Grab a song and your guitar add come join us in the fun.
Welcome Dan,
I'm new to this also, and have never looked in the community section before, but you've given me a reason to look. Can't wait to check it out.

Welcome from Switzerland Dan. Your fingers are remembering fast, judging by your two excellent videos. Hope you have fun here with us all. And if we ever have a difference of opinion at any time, you get to be right by default..... I know what 30 years of Karate can do!!
I guess Mr. Segovia doesn't give a damn!
- Les Paul answering an audience question (while playing with Segovia) about why he tuned his guitar after every song and Segovia didn't.

Steve – I’m in Livermore, three hours south of Chico.
Kevin - My black belt is in Moo Duk Kwan , a Korean Taekwondo. I was a brown belt in the picture. The tournament allowed head contact with feet – not hands. Stop competing after becoming a Black Belt. Didn’t feel like waking up in an emergency room – had a mortgage payment to make. Learned a valuable lesson as a beginner – no matter how good you are, there’s always somebody better! Quit Karate a couple of years ago after rupturing my Achilles tendon.
A big welcome from Sydney Dan. I just watched one of your posts, you play really beautifully. I look forward to seeing the rest and more in the future and talking to you through the forum. Enjoy. Michele
