Paint it Black was released in 1966 on Aftermath. It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, while Brian Jones’ contribution on the sitar gave the song a unique texture, blending the Stones’ hard rock and roll with the resonance of the sitar. The song is played in the key of D minor, but capoed to the 3rd fret, really putting it in the key of F minor. Paint It Black is a very simple song in terms of technique and the intro is a nice little picking rendition of the melody.
can you teach how youre strumming while picking out the notes that are used in the intro like youre doing in the preview?

Niel,
I went from My My Hey Hey (a 2) to Ripple (another 3) to this and it has been a wonderful build up in the lead melodies. These threes are right at the level I need so that I feel like I am improving yet it keeps me coming back for more. Thanks for another great lesson.

Hi Neil,
Great Lesson as always.
I am also curious about the embellishments that Vincent is requesting, namely the D minor intro type embellishments in the middle of the chorus (it's not so much what ur playing, but how) and also the verse embellishments which follow/echo the lyrical structure of the verse.
Thanks in advance :)

You're the pro Neil, but I really don't feel like this song is a 3. It seems more difficult than most of the other 3's I've played.

Hi Neil
Great lesson for a great song and good idea the whole background that you are explaining in the theory section
Anyway i d like you to add if it is possible another section when you explain how you actually mix up the melody with the other parts like you do in the preview section. that would be cool and sound exactly like the stones!!!
Thank again
Vincent
