Steve Stills’ basic fingerpicking song is done in a D Modal Tuning- every string is tuned to either D or A, the root and fifth notes of the D Chord. The tuning used for this lesson is DADDAD, slightly modified from Stills’ DDDDAD but since he never plays the 5th string it doesn’t matter and is easier on your guitar and strings.
How about "Singing Call". Another great Stills tune that sounds very similar.

Neil,
Please more of these D modal tuning songs by CSNY. Finish up on Suite Judy Blue Eyes too, we're all ready for more.
Thanks

FINALLY
This is the song that got me to your web site so long ago. I saw a teaser on youtube and joined your site long before target. This is probably the song that got me wanting to start learning guitar at 54 years old. I play with a group of people once a week that are better than me, and it really inspires me to get better. IT'S TOO MUCH FUN!! I've gotten good enough that this is the year for a new guitar. I stii have so much to learn.
Thanks Neil

Nice idea to take a look into the guitar style of this band. I have always wondered about the layered guitars and open tunings they used to get "that sound."
