The song is fingered in the key of D, but the guitar was played with a capo at the 2nd fret moving the tonal center (tonic) to E. It uses 2 different modes, the first section, starting on D major, uses the mixolydian mode (C natural in the scale rather than C#). The second section, starting on Dm is based on the melodic minor scale.

I meant Dm to Em7 in Verse B1&2. My bad.written by Al Rosen, June 04, 2009
Loving this tune too. I'm having a hard time getting from the G to Em7 quickly in Verse B1&2. I'll get it eventually, but in the meantime this variation helps me- and sounds really good IMHO.. Start bar 8 with a straight Em-- then switch it to the Em7 half way through. Works for me! Alwritten by Al Rosen, June 04, 2009
Neil, I love the chord melody sound and it always something that I stuggle with. This song is a great way to get some confidence and definately improve some technique. I can't wait to get this ironed out and have my first good sounding chord melody tune. Thanks again, Mikewritten by Mike Bleier, May 08, 2009
