Shortly after the Jefferson Airplane took off, they released Surrealistic Pillow, in 1967. Their virtuoso guitarist, Jorma Kaukonen, played this solo guitar masterpiece and it was included. Iy is done in Dropped D Tuning using mostly a standard alternating bass technique (Travis Picking).

Neil- I believe that you would make Jorma proud with your playing of this piece. This is classic modern acoustic fingerstyle music. I am amazed that someone would comment that they don't like this song. It is truly beautiful and you play it wonderfully! Thanks!

I want to thank you for your Embryonic Journey lesson and complement you on this video and the tab. I signed up yesterday only because of this. I've been working on Embryonic for about a year and a half and have been frustrated getting the alternating thumb fully integrated into my playing, and I think this will help.
As for Mr. Doussett's comment all I can say is 'to each his own.' For me Embryonic Journey has always been a classic ever since I first heard it in the 60s. Jorma is a talented and respected musician, a warm and sincere person, and I'm honored to have known him.
Best regards,
Barry

Love your site. Became a Target member the first day and plan on sticking around for quite a while. I have begun to try my hand at Classical Gas and am making some progress, thank you. However, and this is just my own humble opinion but I will burn to cinders all 13 of my guitars before I play a piece like Embryonic Journey. Sorry, can't stand it.The Boxer would be an excellent replacement.

Neil great video. You have done this site justice you should be proud of yourself and your team. I think you will be helping many struggling musician's get it right. I know I have already started to improve right and left hand technique. Any Bon Jovi in the future? Maybe Wanted dead or Alive?
